Austrian and international festival-goers, if you haven’t written August 17 – 19 into your calendar yet, now is the time to do so. FM4 Frequency Festival awaits fans of quality music for its 20th anniversary this year – at the same venue as in previous years (before COVID-19), in Green Park in Sankt Pölten, not far from the banks of the river Traisen.
excellent as was in the years before the pandemic; headliners include the following artists: Macklemore, Limp Bizkit, Robin Schulz, Brennan Heart, Meduza, Die Ärzte, Alligatoah, Mother Mother, Imagine Dragons, Electric Callboy, Tom Odell, Deorro, Armin van Buuren, Farruko, W&W, and many more – so attendees can choose from many genres depending on their taste in music.
Frequency – a brief history of the festival
The event was first organized in 2001 with 6 – 6 artists on each day. In the years after 2001 many well-known and popular artists and bands headlined the festival such as the Fall Out Boy, Weezer, Mando Diao, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, The Prodigy, Jimmy Eat World, The Killers, Pendulum, Simple Plan, The Chemical Brothers, Panic! at the Disco, The Cure, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Bastille, Snoop Dogg, Skrillex, Rudimental, Milky Chance, Hozier, Example, Linkin Park, The Script, Ellie Goulding, Major Lazer, Martin Garrix, Bring Me The Horizon, George Ezra, Hardwell, Afrojack, Kygo, Timmy Trumpet, Sum 41, Lost Frequencies, Twenty One Pilots, Sunrise Avenue, Swedish House Mafia, G-Eazy, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.
Ab zum Planet Frequency!
Frequency Warm-Up Barty Bim was organized for party people on the 29th of April, where they could party to the DJ set of MODESTEP and Vienna-based YouPhoria and were provided Gratis Wieselburgers even.
Those who attended the mega event at Tezenis Store on June 24th at Mariahilfer Straße in Vienna, had the opportunity to pick up exclusive Tezenis Goodie-Bags.
This August Green Park will welcome festival-goers again between the 17th – 19th. People can chill in the Traisen while before and after attending the cool programs, they could chill at Glamping and Green Camping – depending on which camping they purchased their tickets to.
And considering the line-up nobody will be disappointed this year either.
Furthermore, a brief summary of the headliners’ work so far can be found below.
Macklemore
Seattle-born Ben Haggerty gained global fame with mega-hits „Thrift Shop” and „Can’t Hold Us”. From 2009 till 2016 he worked with producer Ryan Lewis and they created so many popular songs together such as White Walls – which is currently very popular on TikTok – , Downtown, Marmalade, Dance Off, etc.
I only went to one of his concerts so far, so I can’t wait to see hím performing again.
Robin Schulz
The German superstar DJ also will take the stage to impress the audience with his extraordinary set. His globally known hits Sugar, Miss You, OK, and Sun Goes Down will be certainly played. After his special show in Umag at Sea Star festival this May I will totally be in the first row again at Frequency.
Imagine Dragons
One of my favorite bands from my teenage years to whom we owe such excellent songs like Radioactive, Believer, Thunder and Natural also headlines the festival. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to attend their concerts so far but in August I hopefully will do so.
Armin van Buuren
Blah Blah Blah. In And Out Of Love. This Is What It Feels Like. Come Around Again. Mr. Navigator. Do they ring any bells? If so, you have to attend his party. If not, you shall experience in person how amazing a DJ he is.
Meduza
The Italian DJ trio that consists of Luca Gregorio (Luke Degree), Martin Vitale (Madwill) and Simone Giani (Simon de Jano) rose to fame in 2019 with their songs Piece of Your Heart (in collaboration with Goodboys) and Lose Control (also with Goodboys; and Becky Hill). They headlined several festivals so far, furthermore on November 11 2020 they performed a live set in Cava dei Balestrieri in San Marino, which was streamed on Twitch.
Brennan Heart
The creator of Imaginary (one of my absolute favorite songs of all time), Lose My Mind and Beast will perform for the first time in front of the audience of Frequency. Absolutely cannot be missed.
Limp Bizkit
After 4 years, I will finally have the opportunity again to attend the concert of the artists of one of my childhood favorites, and listen to their hit, Behind Blue Eyes. Can’t wait.
Deorro
I am pretty sure many of you still remember „Five More Hours” – featuring American singer Chris Brown. And it is only one thing why the Mexican-American DJ’s performance is a must to attend…
Farruko
Rapper/ singer Carlos Efrén Reyes Rosado (better known as Farruko) gained fame with his song „Pepas” in 2021 which is still a huge favorite of TikTok users, and reached 592 million views on YouTube since its upload. And of course Esta Vida in collaboration with Marshmello shall also be mentioned here. Again, a must.
W&W
The duo, which consists of two DJs from the Netherlands, Willem van Hanegem and Wardt van der Harst (note: the name of the duo comes from the first letters of their first names). Their song Lift Off! is an all-time favorite of mine but I love their other songs just as much, but unfortunately I have missed their shows so far, so now I plan to make front row this August. I highly recommend them.
Tom Odell
Last, but not least the 32-year-old British singer shall also be mentioned in this section. With his song „Another Love” he quickly became well-known globally in 2012 – the video clip of the song reached 760 million views on YouTube since then. I am not necessarily familiar with his songs, but I definitely plan to attend his concert.
